A beautifully toned Drachm from Tanagra from the collection of Kurt Zimmermann (* 1937)

BOEOTIA. Tanagra. Circa 479-475 BC. Drachm (Silver, 14 mm, 5.95 g). Boeotian shield; in one opening, horizontal T facing inward. Rev. Square incuse with Maltese cross pattern in relief and T in two opposing incuse sections. BCD Boiotia 250. BMC 6. HGC 4, 1283 var. SNG Copenhagen 217. SNG Lockett 1731. Beautifully toned, very well centered on a compact flan, and with a sharply struck reverse incuse. A few light marks, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of Kurt Zimmermann (* 1937) of Winterthur, long-serving numismatist at Schweizerische Kreditanstalt and Leu Numismatik, privately acquired from Dr. G. Giacosa in November 1980, and ex Münzen & Medaillen FPL 282, November 1967, 15.
